How Healthy Is Portland Compared To Other Cities

Portland is a healthier city than Sacramento, Calif., but not as healthy as seven other big cities, including Seattle, Minneapolis and San Francisco, according to a new survey by NerdWallet.com.The No. 1 healthiest city is Boston, NerdWallet found. NerdWallet, which also ranks hospitals on prices, assessed the 50-largest metropolitan areas on the basis of general fitness of residents, overall health insurance coverage and the availability of doctors.It assessed overall fitness in line with the American Fitness Index, which includes data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, environmental factors from the Trust for Public Lands and rates of disease. It also included the percentage of residents with healthy weight levels and who engage in physical activity.“Portland is the third most environmentally friendly city in the world — and for residents, sustainability and health go hand in hand,” NerdWallet's Portland writeup says.
