Leaves have changed, the rain has started, the heaters have clicked on- it is officially fall and the season of warm beverages has begun! True, coffee shops are on about every other corner these days, but for those tea drinkers out there, here are a few local tea shops to explore.


After traveling to tea houses across Europe and Morocco, the owners of The Jasmine Pearl returned to Portland and started a tea merchant company of their own. Their website alone offers a great deal of information on the different types of tea, traditions, and brewing tips. Their NE storefront offers free tastings and a number of events and classes.

With locations on Nob Hill and in Sellwood, Tea Chai Té is a perfect place to spend a cozy afternoon studying, visiting with friends, or catching up on your reading. The Sellwood locations is especially unique as it located in the historic Red Sellwood Caboose.

Each of Tao of Tea’s teahouses comes with their own particular artistry, but they all work to serve tea in its most pure and traditional form. This is especially evident in the teahouse within the Lan Su Chinese Gardens where you can enjoy and learn about the Chinese tea serving process.
