The Portland area has landed on a prestigious list that ranks innovative locales.

The Milken Institute’s annual Best-Performing Cities index for 2015 ranked Portland eighth, up from 16th a year ago. The index examines growth in employment, wages and technology output, among other factors.

The city climbed eight spots, and into the top ten, in the latest Milken report.

Portland ranked just behind the Seattle region in the index, which put San Jose at the top.

The index ranks 200 large and 201 small metro areas across the U.S. Corvallis ranked 86th on the small city list.
