Portland Firm Finds Heartwarming Super Bowl Ads Score Best

For any marketers out there, the people love homecomings, puppies, heart tugging messages and nostalgia. Leading up to and following the Super Bowl, Portland-based measuring and research firm Dialsmith has been asking people to rate ads set to run on game day. Through nine different television station partnerships the firm had about 30,000 unique ratings, said Brian Izenson, marketing manager for the firm. The highest scoring ads were Budweiser’s “Hero’s Welcome” which scored 71.1 (out of 100); followed by another Budweiser ad, “Puppy love” which scored 69.1; and Radio Shack's "The 80's called" which scored 67.9. The Radio Shack ad was the highest rated by viewers in the Portland market, with a 73 rating....

CarMax’s “Slow Clap” had the lowest rating at 47.3; followed by GoDaddy’s “Bodybuilder” at 49.5; and Sprint's "The Framily Plan," which rated 49.8. The CarMax ad was the lowest scoring ad in the Portland market with 47.3. “The trend we’re seeing in the data is that the ads with an emotional hook are clearly performing the best.
